18th Pacific Coast Gravity Meeting

Artsy Graphic

University of California at Davis
March 29-30 2002

Updates
Congratulations to Daniel Bambeck and Jana Strasburg for sharing the Bell prize this year.

Announcement
The 18th Pacific Coast Gravity Meeting has been scheduled for March 29-30, 2002 at the University of California at Davis. The PCGM is an open, relaxed, informal, `student friendly' conference, with a number of short talks and ample time to meet and talk with colleagues. Researchers and students interested in all areas of gravitational physics -- classical and quantum, theory and experiment -- are welcome to attend.

Talks
The meeting will follow the standard, very informal, format of previous PCGMs. There will be no plenary talks, parallel sessions nor proceedings. Instead, all participants, especially postdocs and graduate students, are invited to contribute talks on their current research. The length of each talk will be 10 minutes plus 2 minutes for questions. We have a tentative program of talks at this conference.

Registration
In keeping with tradition, there will be no registration fee, but we will unfortunately be unable to offer financial aid for any participants. Refreshments will be provided at coffee breaks, but meals will be the responsibility of individual attendees.

To help our preparations, we ask anyone who expects to attend to register as soon as possible. This can be done through our:

Registration Page

Alternatively, registration information can be sent to Steve Carlip, by:

  • email: pcgm@dirac.ucdavis.edu
  • fax: (530) 752-4717
  • phone: (530) 752-8786
  • snail mail:
       18th PCGM, c/o Steve Carlip
       Department of Physics
       University of California
       Davis, CA 95616
Let us know your name, institutional affiliation, email address, and the title of your talk (if you intend to give one). Also indicate if you are a student, and therefore eligible for the Bell Prize.

Bell Prize
A prize of $100 will be awarded for the best talk by a student at the meeting. The prize is named after Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discovered radio pulsars while a graduate student.

APS
The Spring Meeting of the California Section of the American Physical Society will be held at Davis on the same weekend as the PCGM. People interested in that meeting can find more information at http://www.aps.org/meet/CSS02/.
