I will give a brief introduction to the problem, and make a comparison with electromagnetism. I will bring in the role of gravity in contributing to the energy of a system as expressed by the Tolman integral. The variation of the Tolman integral could be seen as a necessary condition for the loss of energy of a body during a dynamic wave- emitting phase. I will briefly show what is required to track this variation as applied to the classic Eddington spinning rod.
