Transportation
Where Is Davis, California?
Davis is located in California's Central Valley, about 15 miles west of Sacramento and 70
miles east of San Francisco. You can view a zoomable map of the Davis area using a
Yahoo map.
For a small town, Davis is surprisingly easy to get to. You can travel by:
- plane: Sacramento International Airport is about 20 minutes from Davis.
You can get here from the airport on the Davis Airporter (530-756-6715 or 800-565-5153)
for about $18 each way; advance reservations are a good idea. If you have less money
and more time, Yolobus Line 42 leaves the
airport twice an hour and eventually arrives at the U.C. Davis campus.
If it's easier to fly to San Francisco, you can rent a car and drive here (see
below) or take Greyhound, the Davis Airporter, or another van. Here is more information. You can also
get a shuttle from the San Francisco airport to the Emeryville Amtrak station and take the train to Davis.
- train: Davis is on the Amtrak Capitol Corridor line, with nine
trains a day each way connecting with San Jose and the Bay area. Davis is also a stop
on the California Zephyr (Chicago to
Emeryville) and the Coast Starlight (Seattle to Los Angeles), though if you take
either of these trains you should plan to be quite late.
- automobile: Davis is located on Interstate 80, near Interstate 5.
The I-80 Downtown Davis exit will get you to downtown motels; the UC Davis exit will
take you onto campus. From I-5 you can either connect to I-80 in Sacramento or take
Highway 113 or Road 102 from Woodland. For painfully detailed directions, look here.
- bus: People from the Bay Area with a University of California
affiliation might want to look into the Berkeley-Davis shuttle. Davis also has a
limited service Greyhound bus terminal.
Getting Around Davis
- Davis has a public transportation system called Unitrans.
