A lot of salsa I see in clubs (and especially schools) is uninteresting and disconnected. The flash is all in the upper body: endless turning and spinning with no connection. To be fair, I dance with Evelyn an awful lot and we DO have connection. IMHO, even though we don't do anything complicated here, this dance is prettier and smoother than many dances I've ever seen. You can see what I look like when Evelyn does something completely unexpected at 3:00. We go into a CBL, followed by a double inside turn with a drop catch, where we (should have been) back to back. I turn around and she's totally not where I expected her to be. I don't know if it shows, but I'm totally confused and have no idea what to do about it, so I do a right turn, let her go, do a left turn and hope fot the best. It actually ended up looking pretty good. LOL! |
